They come in all shapes and sizes and the possibilities are endless.  From the cute little lap dog to the giant guardian, these wonderful dogs have been call mutts, mixes and currs.  But the title All-American fits them best because, like us, they come from all walks of life, all countries and backgrounds.  They serve as companions, protectors, friends and hunters. They bring joy to nursing homes and children's hospitals.  They help the hearing disabled and the elderly.  They bring love to young and old alike.

Mixed breed dogs can be hybrids (a puppy from two purebred parents  of different breeds) to "Heinz 57" varieties (many breeds  blended together until the origins fade into non recognition.)  These dogs are often healthier than the pure bred dogs and because they do not suffer genetic difficulties from close breeding, they are also often more sound, both physically and mentally and tend to live longer. 

All-Americans are easy to find and in desperate need. They can be found in any shelter, longing to give their loyal devotion and unconditional love.  But do not let their availability and low purchase price devalue them.  They need the same care as any pure breed including regular veterinary care and proper nutrition.
