Lost Dogs.
Each
year, the days following public celebrations of our independence,
causes local shelters to fill with lost pets who have fled in panic
from the noise. Dogs have been known to run away, jump through
windows, dig under fences, etc, to bolt free. Even from miles away an animal can feel and hear the loud noises of a fireworks display. Some owners simply are not aware of the effect this noise have on their pets and bring them along for the party. Please leave your pet at home! Some
helpful hints for protecting your pet during July's festivities:
Be sure your dog is secure! Keep him inside, preferably crated, with a favorite toy. Turn on the television or radio to help drowned out any noise. Be prepared for sudden, unexpected noise, such as a person setting off a fire cracker. Keep your pet leashed while outdoors. For extreme anxiety cases, talk to your veterinarian about a mild sedative to help him through this time. |
